Huawei is laying a serious claim for third place in the smartphone market, behind Samsung and Apple of course. The company has recently announced 2014 smartphone sales that surpassed key rivals such as Lenovo, LG, and Xiaomi, while the Chinese brand revealed that it was a bumper financial year too when announcing its 2014 results.
Revenue has taken a huge jump, a 30% increase on 2013 to $12.2 billion, a figure that Huawei confirms is a record, while the company says it has never even passed $10 billion before. Factoring feature phones, Huawei sold 138 million handsets and made strong profits from its smartphone division. It is worth remembering that the company achieved this without having a strong market in Europe and North America.
Our strategy of focusing on premium mid- to high- end products has borne fruit, with 2014 resulting in significant achievements in a number of areas including product R&D, brand awareness, channel development and growth in market share which further consolidated our number three position in the global smartphone market. The global influence of our brand has continued to grow, and Huawei has become the first mainland Chinese company to successfully enter Interbrand’s Top 100 Global Brands of 2014 list," revealed Mr. Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei.
