As short lifespans go, the Galaxy Alpha will be right up there as it is being reported today by South Korea’s ET News that Samsung is preparing to discontinue the handset. Launched back in August, the Alpha’s stay in the smartphone world will be brief as Samsung will kill the device early in February “as soon as its inventory of materials is exhausted.”
The company used the Alpha as a device to point a direction to its new smartphone strategy, one that would bring handsets with better quality design. With its metal construction the Alpha laid a path that most subsequent Galaxies have followed. This premium edge arrived on the Galaxy A range of smartphones, the spiritual successors to the Galaxy Alpha. It is these devices that led to Samsung deciding to end the Alpha.
